Animal Magic – Stylish Animal Print Dresses
September 5, 2010 by Ceri ·
Animal prints have for a long time had some slightly undesirable associations, including Bett Lynch of Coronation Street and Pat Butcher of Eastenders. Whilst animals prints can look a little harsh, tacky or over the top, they can also look really stylish. With animal print dresses, it is all about how you wear them. Picking out just the right animal print dress will ensure that you look stylish, sophisticated and on trend.
Zebra Print
The zebra print dress is one of the most on trend animal print dresses at the moment. The bold combination of black and white looks amazing when combined with accessories or shoes in bright primary colours. This beautiful and very wearable Zebra Cowl Dress by Project D by Dannii and Tabitha has an incredibly flattering cut that suits most body shapes. A really sophisticated way to wear animal prints.
Muted animal prints
By wearing a muted version of the animal print, it takes on a whole new look which is subtle and sophisticated. The softer colours look very different in comparison to the traditional bold animal prints. This is the perfect choice of animal print for a day dress and can even work for wearing to the office or into work. The neutral colours in this Lorna Animal print dress are a fresh alternative to the traditional yellow and black leopard print.
Dressed down animal print dresses
By adding a pair of hiking boots and a biker jacket to your animal dresses, you can make it more Rock and Roll than Pat Butcher avoid over accessorising instead think grunge instead of over glammed. The seasons wedge shoes are also a great choice for wearing with your animal prints, try looking for beige, sand and black. We love these zipper wedge ankle boots by Acne.
Mixing it up
Leena Animal and Lace Print Dress
Ruby Animal and Rose Print Dress
Keep your animal print dress looking fresh and up to date by combining the animal print with something else perhaps a pretty floral or lace design. This Ruby Animal and Rose Print dress by Boohoo combines roses over a leopard skin background for the perfect combinations of pretty and racy.
Small Areas of Animal Print
Some times less is definitely more and this can be true when it comes to animal print. Look for dresses with small areas of animal print for a subtle but stylish look. This Daphne dress by Motel Rocks has a great combination of black and leopard print which is sexy but not too much.
If all over animal prints are too much for you, you can still add a bit of animal magic with a LBD accessorised with some great animal print accessories.
This animal Jaquard scarf is a great accessory for the autumn or winter and for a subtle touch of animal print.
A pair of animal print pumps is the perfect footwear for a stylish daytime outfit. We love these animal print flower ballerina pumps.
Striking Women’s Dresses For The World Cup
June 11, 2010 by Ceri ·
This Friday the FIFA World Cup will officially kick off in South Africa. Even if you are not usually a big fan of football, it is difficult to not get wrapped up in the excitement about one of worlds biggest sporting events. Whilst in the past, most people have supported the England team by wearing the England Football strip or painting their faces with a George Cross, this year women’s dresses in red and white offer a stylish but equally patriotic option. Whilst football shirts are great for men who want to support England, they are a little unflattering and casual for ladies who like to get dressed up for the event.
Perhaps it is the WAGs (well some of them) in their designer dresses that have brought a little glamour to the game and made those ladies which opt for the predictable football shirt feel a little under dressed. If ever anyone needed a great excuse to get dressed up, then supporting England in the world cup is definitely it. Instead of just sitting at home watching the game on the box, many people now choose to congregate in public places to watch it on a big screen or go to parties or barbecues.
This year there has been quite a bit of talk about fashion with the FIFA world cup licensing its imagery, including mascots and logos, to be transformed into a clothing brand, courtesy of Singapore-based Global Brands Group. But with so many different options and women’s dresses available, you don’t have to look too far to find some great World Cup fashion with bright and bold to subtle and stylish, there is something to suit everyone. High Street retailers all have their own ranges of England world cup clothes.
Whilst the most popular choice of colours for supporting the England team are red and white, that doesn’t mean that you will have to invest in a red and white dress that you might never wear again. A bright red dress is a really stunning choice and can easily be accessorised with some white accessories for a patriotic football outfit. Similarly white women’s dresses accessorised with red will create the same effect as the England flag. A little navy into the mix won’t do any harm either.
This simple white linen dress by Marks and Spencers combined with these red shoes by Dorothy Perkins makes a stylish and minimalist look for any World Cup parties that you attend this summer.
This bold and bright red striped dress by Dorothy Perkins is a really ‘striking’ way to cheer on the England team.
There are plenty of other ways that you can add a little support for England to your world Cup outfit. These fun accessories are perfect for both match day parties and every day wear.
This square faced England watch would look great with a casual dress or shirt dress and some England flip flops. A England sequin clutch is also a great way to support England in style.
Let’s hear it for the boys! Another alternative is the ENGLAND LION TEE (£10). Perfect to team with jeans or a pair of white jersey shorts, cheer on England in this round neck tee available in red or white. or The ENGLAND FLAG TEE (£14) has a large motif print to the front and a slash open back with adjustable tie. Available in red or white.

Michelle Obama And Carla Bruni Fashion Face-Off
April 4, 2009 by Womens fashion Team ·
Well what a week! G20, protesters, Shearer back at Newcastle…
What could possible over shadow all of that? you should have guessed by now that it was the Fashion Face Off on Friday between Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.
After the UK played hosts to the G20 and and the Obama’s first official foreign trip, It was off to Strasbourg, France for the 60th anniversary Gathering of the NATO alliance.
But the fashion super powers were there side by side to win the fashion war, and for Michelle especially to do it in France, Fashions backyard!
On Friday Morning, Michelle and Carla stood side by side in contrasting apparel, as it was outdoors they both chose to wear coats, and as Michelle went for a confident business look with a fun twist with a piece from yet another young up and coming designer, Carla in contrast plumbed for the safe and cautious route with her fave Dior.
Michelle’s coat which had a black background with a floral foreground pattern of pink poppies, featuring a ruched neck which Mrs Obama had loosely tied. It was teamed nicely with low heeled patent leather shoe.
Carla on the other hand stuck to a more traditional Dior soft grey coat, with three quarter length sleeves. She chose a matching scarf around her neck and similar heels to Michelle.
During the afternoon, Michelle surprised us further by having a matching dress to the coat she wore earlier, only it was a pink back ground to the foreground of black poppies, the dress had a trendy slit neck and the hem and cuff were in contrasting black matching the flower print.
Carla’s dress was a little of an anti climax however, as yet again it was in her now predictable grey! with a silk button patterned panel on the front, giving the illusion of a two piece.
I suppose that was probably the difference between the two in our opinion, where Carla stuck to her comfort zone and the grey dior-esque style we’ve become accustomed to, Michelle was confident, with an ever so subtle twist which lifted her look.
Plus with a new designer label, she again showed how she can break down the fashion barriers, with a new attitude towards how she as the first lady is meant to look.
We think that Michelle Obama is not stopping in her fashion trail blazing, whether its high street Fashion label of J.Crew, or the one off pieces from other wise relative unknown fashion designers. She will continue to draw attention and set trends in the coming years.
