Do You Think Slim Women Are Sexier?

Going off subject a little, and taking a break from writing about women’s clothing and fashion for a brief second or two.

I thought I would bring to your attention a new book which challenges the stereotypical views we have towards the opposite sex, and the labels we give to certain groups of people or generalities we make towards them. I thought it was fun to write article about it, or at least part of it.

The Book is called “Women can’t Park, Men can’t Pack Do You Think Slim Women Are Sexier?“, written by Psychologist Geoff Rolls, it takes a closer look at some of the common assumptions behind certain groups of people to see whether these labels we give each other are true or merely anecdotal.

The book attempts to answer certain questions, as well as exploring the psychology surrounding some widely held stereotypical views, such as Can Women Park a car? Why do all girls Like Pink? Are All Librarians Dowdy bespectacled Spinsters? and Are all WAG’s Stupid?

The book examines the background to all the above questions and more, delving into the source of and history of these stories and to explore in some depth where the tales actually come from and whether there’s any truth in them.

With the media full of either size zero model exposés, or obesity nightmare stories, we picked up on perhaps one of the more topical of these questions, and highlighted whether slim women are actually any sexier?

Size Zero models are used in the fashion industry, apparently, according to Carl Lagerfeld of Chanel, because clothes actually hang better on skinny models; whether thts right or wrong a lot of women aspire to this look because they think it is attractive, but given a preference, is the skinny model any sexier than say a larger women?

AS with all things fashion, the the answer is very subjective, there are numerous studies showing that the WHR (Waist Hips Ratio) is one of the key indicator to use as a measurement.

One of the most recent of these studies has been made using both male and female participants, aged between 18 to 60. They were asked to rank in order of attractiveness 12 line drawings representing the four levels of WHR at 3 levels of body weight; Underweight, Normal and Overweight.

The body shape with a normal silhouette and a WHR score of 0.7 was highlighted to be the most attractive. this shape as represented by the WHR ranking was the one that defined the curviness of the female body most, with shapely breasts, broad hips set against a narrow waist, in other words, the classic hourglass figure.

The commonly held belief here is that the classic womanly figure is commonly associated with fertility which has evolved over millions of years of the human race, and is a primal instinct by men who seem to sub-consciously assess a women’s potential to bear children as the prime criteria of attractiveness.

However, in another influential study, it was actual images of women dressed identically, some manipulated to show variations in WHR as well as in BMI (Body Mass Index) which is widely regarded as the standard measure of weight against Height.

In this study, It was found that small variations in BMI had a large influence upon how attractive the women was seen to be, and that these BMi alterations made a greater impact on attractiveness than that of the corresponding changes in WHR.

This leads us to believe that BMI is actually a more accurate method of determining Female attractiveness.

The World Health Organisation recommends that the healthy range as measured in BMI is between 18.5 and 25. In the UK the BMI Score that was seen to be the most attractive in Women was 20.85.

The good news therefore is that whether measured by WHR or BMI, the conclusion is that Skinny women aren’t necessarily the sexist.
