Body Con Dresses feature With Herve Leger Again

September 14, 2009 by ·

bodycondresses Body Con Dresses feature With Herve Leger AgainThe term Bon Con dresses or “Body Concious” has been bandied around for the last number of years, but the brainchild behind this style of the dress is the French Fashion Designer Herve Leger, who in the late 80′s originally conceived the “bandage dress”, and so Bon Con dresses were unleashed upon the world. The distinctive “body concious” silhouette synonymous with this style which extenuates the female figure was all down to what has now become an iconic dress.

Not able to use his name professionally since Max Azria bought His label in 1998, the Herver Leger brand was relaunched in 2007, since then however Leger has done little to move away from the original body concious concept that led to his fame.

This week during New York Fashion Week, further evidence of this was demonstrated, as the only creativity employed by Leger appeared to be in the splattered-paint effect print which was apparent on a number of the dresses, and the shortening of the hem-line to mid-thigh length; everything else about the dress essentially remained the same. Lisa Armstrong of The Times put it very succinctly, referring to the design as “hooker chic rather than haute chic.” great phrase Lisa!

Devoid of any real inspiration and creativity, and trotting out the same old thing is perhaps complacent? But then again, perhaps Leger has every right to be, as it just shows the value of celebrity – why? Well Herve Leger has celebrities queueing up to wear a Leger Designed Bon Con dress on the red carpet with their tanned legs and Bulgari Jewellery, and that’s why the like of Mischa Barton and Hilary Duff’s were in attendance at his show, and no doubt why his latest design will be copied and marketed by all the popular high Street brands and will appear on your favourite fashion website during Spring Summer 2010.

To finish off, I refer back to Lisa Armstrong, who puts it ever so eloquently “These are hellishly expensive dresses, yet they are selling faster than diet pills. But then, they have a similarly slimming effect.”

Bon Con dresses are a style that have become ever so popular on the high Street too and you don’t have to spend hundreds of pounds to own one, To see more affordable versions of his body concious dress click the button below

Women Buy Shoes They Know Don’t Fit

September 7, 2009 by ·

Every one loves a bargain, especially when it comes to women’s shoes, and because of it nearly four in 10 women confess to buying shoes knowing they do not fit!

The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists found 37% of a poll of nearly 2000 women and men would wear uncomfortable shoes as long as they were fashionable.

While 80% of the women surveyed said they suffered with corns or ingrowing nails, amongst other foot problems, only four in ten of the people questioned looked to resolve the issue professionally.

Lorraine Jones, from the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, said: “Many of us find it hard to resist a bargain and the latest fashion must-have, but it’s important to remember that by buying ill-fitting shoes, you’re not only going to end up in discomfort, but you are also putting your health at risk.”

It may be stating the obvious, but Importantly, if your feet hurt something is wrong!

Although shoes like High heels for example can cause problems, it’s surprisingly slip-on shoes which are one of the worst culprits, as they tend to allow the foot to slide forward and hence cramp the toes.

Of all styles of women’s shoes the worst are court shoes, as they are low-fronted, they give little support to the foot at all, and generally are far too narrow in the toe.

Ms Jones continued to discuss the problem of women’s shoes and explained that “many people are wearing the wrong sized shoes on a daily basis without even realising it.”

At some point, most people in the UK suffer from a foot problem, and while many are fairly minor, some can be become extremely painful and sometimes serious enough to become disabling.

“While not all foot problems can be prevented, a large majority of problems do result from incorrect or poor footwear.”

“It is important to wear shoes in the correct size that are appropriate for the activity you need them for.”

“That’s not to say we shouldn’t wear fashionable shoes or High heels, but it does mean that we should give our feet a break and see an expert if there is something wrong.”

The advice given by The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists is that for frequent, everyday wear, ideally women’s shoes should be Low Heals and Flats, no higher than 4cm and with a rounded toe.

Common feet problems caused by ill fitting shoes are – Corns; These are thick and hard areas of skin caused by repeated rubbing and pressure on the skin.  Blisters can be caused by friction, usually from ill-fitting shoes. Bunion are a painful swelling on the side of the big toe, partly down to the anatomy of the foot and worsened by ill-fitting shoes. Ingrowing toenails are often made worse by tight footwear, tight hosiery and tight socks.

If you’re interested in some proper, well fitting women’s shoes, pop over to our shoe store, where you’ll  find something a little more comfortable not only in fit but in price too.
